I have spent a lot of time lately, shooting portraits, commercials, models, and non-wedding related work. I love weddings. I always will, but something about spending the time crafting a portrait, has been very needed creatively, for me. It’s something I need to do more of. It’s something that I need to be doing regularly. Chapter One sessions keep me going most of the time, but I recently decided that I wanted to start working with Seniors to create even more portraiture. Much like everything else that I do, it’s going to be different. It’s going to be very experimental and I’m sure that I will be changing things up along the way.
NONPAREIL has always been about stories to me. Although I’m completely well aware that Senior Pictures are not going to be telling the same kind of story that a wedding tells, I believe that these young adults certainly do have a story to tell. A story of who they are, where they came from, and where they are going in the future, is going to be the initial narrative, but I’m sure things will evolve.
Lastly, I have no idea how I am going to market this or how much I am going to make this an offering. Maybe I’ll do a half dozen sessions during my first year. Weddings are still my priority, so I don’t want to overload myself with more than I can handle. For now though…this is Kaitlyn. She’s actually my friend’s daughter and we spent an afternoon and evening shooting with vintage lenses and chasing the sun. It’s a much slower process than I’m used to and I really enjoyed it.
